I've just begun watching the live feed of the Republican National Convention and following the highlights on C-SPAN.org and I'm already put off. There it is, as large as possible, on the giant screen behind every speaker, an immense, incessantly waving American flag. Beware the flag wavers. More often than not, they are the intolerant ones, the closed-minded ones, the singular purposed ones, the ones who send young men and women off to war for the wrong reasons. They are easily moved by jingoistic calls of 'honor'. They are dangerous.
The Republicans believe that the government owes nothing to its citizens. They believe that those poor unfortunate souls who haven't been able to make themselves wealthy should get some goodhearted, All-American, family-inspired, faith-based charity.
I'll bet lots and lots of those pretty, perky well-dressed Republican ladies are just proud as punch to lend their old designer suits to help clothe those poor souls.
Jesus, freaking, Christ. I can't watch anymore of this. One by one, each Republican is talking about how wonderful they are as people because they help those poor people. Freaking, condescending, self-righteous fat cats.
Now, they are glamorizing guns. I really, really can't watch anymore of this tonight.
