Depression is a thief. It robs people of happiness. It is not just sadness. It's the inability to function in the world. If you think someone is depressed, please notice. It doesn't just go away by itself with a sunny day. Depressed people don't easily "get over it." It's usually chronic and persistent. It needs to be treated seriously. If you can, reach out to someone who you think might be depressed. Don't dismiss their hurt as a passing melancholy. Recognize and understand their anguish. It can be debilitating and deadly. Rest in peace, Robin Williams.
